U.S. Employer FAQs

Q. When should I contact AWV to discuss my seasonal staffing needs?

A. AWV account managers are available to discuss the program with the Company throughout the year. The Company should contact AWV approximately 5-6 months before you need International Worker in order for AWV to process the visa paperwork on your behalf and match you with outstanding and motivated employees.

Q. When are seasonal employees available?

A. All year round, although most employees will come to the U.S. during either the fall or spring seasons.

Q. Is the company required to provide housing?

A. AWV asks employers to arrange affordable and convenient housing for the Workers in close proximity to the job site. Workers will share housing to reduce housing costs.

Q. Can the company interview workers before they arrive?

A. AWV and our International cooperators undertake all recruitment, interviewing and placements. Applications will be shared with employers before hiring decisions are made. Arrangement can be made for Companies to travel overseas and interview groups of Workers.

Q. Can the Company request specific International Workers or Workers from specific countries?

A. Yes. When application is made to USCIS, a specific country and the names of the Workers with their birth dates can be included. However, the Worker must be interviewed, meet all the requirements of the Consular Officer and finally be approved by the Overseas U.S. Consular Office. AWV will provide substitutes if the selected applicants are not available or approved.

Q. What should the Company pay International Workers?

A. The Workers must be paid, at least, the approved prevailing wage on the Labor Certification and the USCIS petition, which is the same wage as an American Worker would expect to receive in that position. Salaries may be increased based upon the experience and ability of the Worker.

Q. Are international staff exempt from paying taxes?

A. No. All H-2B Workers, as well as US Workers are required to pay federal, state and local taxes. Also, the Company must pay, FICA, FUTA, SUTA as required by federal and state laws. For current tax information, please contact the IRS.

Q. What are the program fees for employers?

A. AWV is required by USCIS regulations and laws to charge to the company the costs for advertising, government filing fees, legal services and other costs related to the offer of employment. The AWV costs are the lowest in the industry. Every effort is made to provide the company with qualified workers at the most competitive cost available. Please contact AWV for more information about the program and fees.
