Who May Apply

THE H-2B Worker

AWV will recruit workers that match the description of the position required by the Company. All Workers can be eligible. Each Company provides the skill level and work experience requirements when making application to the U.S. Government Agencies. Examples of skills and requirements are listed below:

General Requirements
: Reliable, responsible, and hard work ethic.

Nationality: Some Companies have preferences based upon prior success and experience, supervisors that speak certain languages, and/or English or Spanish speaking countries. In many cases, there are no requirements.

Language Fluency: Most Companies have either Spanish or English [at various levels] requirement, or a specific language fluency.

No Special Skills or Requirements. Many companies that offer basic unskilled positions have no specific requirements. Positions include: landscape, warehouse, food processing, general construction and general maintenance.

Special Skills: Welding, pipefitting, carpentry, concrete, masonry and other types of skilled construction.
Other Skills or Experience: Hospitality and restaurant: cook, waiter, waitress, and food preparation.

Education: In most cases, no requirement; however, requirements may include: vocational certification or secondary or college level education.

Age: 20-45+

Gender: Male or Female.

Physical Ability: physical strength or dexterity depends upon position.

Personal Characteristics and Caliber of Worker: No criminal, police, medical issues. Ties to home country helps to provide evidence to the Overseas US Consular Office reasons to return to home country at the end of the visa term.

The Worker must complete the AWV on line application form. AWV or its designated overseas agent prescreens worker. Worker must have a passport

THE H-2B COMPANY

Geographical Location: Companies can be located anywhere in the US.

Size of Company: Companies suitable for hiring H-2B Workers range from large businesses that employ thousands of workers to middle size and small businesses. In most cases, to avoid any application costs, the company should have a minimum need for 10 workers.

Government Requirements: To meet DOL and USIC regulations, the US Company must demonstrate one of the following: a seasonal need, a one-time occurrence, a peak-load need, or an intermittent need. AWV will assist Company analyze its employment patterns to determine its eligibility under US policies and regulations.
